About the Office
What the Provincial Agriculturist does under the law
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist is the agriculture office of the Provincial Government of Bukidnon. Under the Local Government Code of 1991 (Republic Act No. 7160), the Provincial Agriculturist takes the lead in agricultural development in the province: planning and carrying out provincial agricultural programs, extension services and on-site research, and helping the agriculture offices of the cities and municipalities.
Actual programs and schedules change from year to year and depend on funding and on national agencies. This page does not list specific programs; ask the office or check the Citizen's Charter for what is currently offered.
What the Office Does
General areas of support for farmers, fisherfolk and municipal agriculture offices
Farmer Support and Extension
Technical advice and training for farmers on crop production, farming practices and farm management, usually delivered together with the municipal agriculture offices.
Crop Production
Support for the province's main crops, such as rice, corn, sugarcane, coffee, pineapple, banana and vegetables.
Livestock and Poultry
Technical help for raisers of cattle, hogs and poultry, and coordination on animal health with the municipal offices.
Support to Municipalities
The Provincial Agriculturist helps the agriculture offices of Malaybalay City, Valencia City and the 20 municipalities with technical guidance and coordination.
Coordination with National Agencies
The office works with the Department of Agriculture and other national agencies so that their programs reach Bukidnon farmers.
Information and Referrals
Ask the office which provincial or national agricultural programs are open and which office handles your concern.
Farmer Registration (RSBSA)
The Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture is the list used to identify farmers and fisherfolk for agricultural assistance
General Steps
- Go to the agriculture office of your municipality (or of Malaybalay City or Valencia City if you live there). Registration starts there, not at the Capitol.
- Ask whether registration is open and what you need to bring.
- Fill out the registration form and answer the interview on your farm or fishing activity.
- Ask how you can check your registration later and how updates are done.
What to Bring
- A valid government-issued ID
- Details about your farm: location, crops or livestock, and area worked
- Proof of ownership or tenancy, if you have it
- Requirements may vary; confirm with your municipal agriculture office.
Farming in Bukidnon
Why agriculture matters to the province
Bukidnon is known as the "food basket of Mindanao." Its highland plains and river valleys produce rice, corn, sugarcane, coffee, pineapple, banana and vegetables, and farmers also raise poultry, hogs and cattle.
Farms and agro-industrial operations are spread across the 20 municipalities and two cities, so most contact with farmers starts at the city or municipal agriculture office. The provincial office supports them from the Capitol.
Handled by Your City or Municipality
Most day-to-day farm services start at the local agriculture office
RSBSA Registration and Updates
Register or update your record at the agriculture office of your city or municipality.
Local Assistance and Technicians
Farm visits by agricultural technicians and assistance given by your local government come from the city or municipal agriculture office.
Markets and Slaughterhouses
Public markets and slaughterhouses are run by the city or municipality, not the Province.
